Discover the possibilities of fine silver metal clay while creating jewelry of your own. In this two-part beginner-friendly workshop, you’ll learn how to work with silver metal clay to create a pair of earrings and pendant necklace. During the first session, Dawn will guide you through rolling, texturing, shaping and refining your clay to create your jewelry pieces. Your finished pieces will then be kiln-fired between sessions, transforming the metal clay into fine silver.
When we meet again, you’ll learn how to finish and patina your silver, bringing out the beautiful details and texture in your design. You’ll then complete your jewelry by adding ear wires to your earrings or a sterling silver chain to your pendant. No previous metal clay or jewelry-making experience is necessary.
Figure Drawing with Laike Palermo

8 weeks
6:00 – 9:00 PM
EDU Room 506A

New and experienced students are welcome! No prior figure-drawing experience is required. Whether you’ve never drawn the human figure before or you’re looking to strengthen your existing skills, this untraditional figure-drawing class will teach you how to approach the human body with confidence and curiosity.
We’ll break the figure down from start to finish, exploring proportion, perspective, gesture, anatomy, and simplified forms. Students will learn how to see the body as a collection of basic shapes and structures, then build those forms into increasingly detailed and expressive drawings.
Our sessions will range from quick 30-second gesture poses designed to capture movement and energy, to longer 20-minute poses that allow us to focus on proportion, structure, anatomy, and detail. This class will help you develop a stronger understanding of the human form—and, most importantly, learn how to see it.

Whether you’re a new artist picking up a pencil for the first time or returning to the studio after some time away, this class will introduce you to the fundamental principles of drawing and help you develop the skills to truly see the world around you. Through demonstrations, guided exercises, and hands-on practice, students will explore perspective, line, form, proportion, shape, value, shading, and the transformation of 2D and 3D objects onto paper. We’ll learn how to break complex subjects down into simple forms and develop the ability to observe and translate what we see with greater accuracy and detail. By the end of the course, students will bring these skills together in a traditional still-life drawing. Along the way, you’ll discover that boxes are your best friend—and that learning to draw can completely change the way you see the world. A supply list will be provided.
