This 6-week course will focus on honing skills in ceramic surfaces. Students will learn techniques for how to utilize different surfaces and create two-dimensional imagery on three-dimensional surfaces. We will be taking a deep dive into approaches such as: creative idea development, sgraffito, underglaze painting/layering, Mishima, stencils, slip trailing, paper transfers, additive / subtractive texture, wax resist, in-depth cone 6 glazing processes, and more! Students will have the freedom to make work in the clay process of their choice (handbuilding, wheel, etc.), and apply the learned surface methods to their pieces. Previous experience with clay required. Clay and glazes included. Students must bring their own apron and small sketchbook.
