Sudi Wang, Portrait of Mind

July 23 – September 4, 2027

Sudi Wang’s interest in monster imagery is drawn from a family trip to Angkor Wat in Cambodia, where she encountered the stone sculptures of human-like creatures. Wang realized that the figures are meant not to inspire fear, but to invite contemplation, reflection, and conversation about what it means to be human.

Woodblock printing is Wang’s primary medium, as its slow, intentional process enables reflection and meditation on these figures.

She designs and creates different creatures, by carving directly into wood without a pre-planned drawing, sketch, or vision, letting her emotions, concerns, and anxieties guide the forms that emerge.
