Buffalo Arts Studio was established in 1991 with the goal to provide affordable studio space and valuable exposure for artists while also offering arts education and public art for the entire community. Located on Buffalo’s east side, Buffalo Arts Studio and Tri-Main Center help to enrich this previously underserved area by developing an exciting cultural environment that benefits Tri-Main tenants, the neighborhood, and surrounding areas.
Buffalo Arts Studio’s exhibition program focuses on new works by emerging and established regional artists that critically address contemporary issues. Buffalo Arts Studio’s internationally recognized exhibitions program includes 8-10 solo and/or group exhibitions, which attract over 12,000 visitors annually. The site includes over 20,000 square feet housing 30 resident artist studios, a gift shop, community exhibiting space and two main galleries accessible by multiple freight elevators and supported by industrial maintenance staff and equipment. As a result, the Buffalo Arts Studio curator encourages ambitious, site specific installations that utilize these assets.
Buffalo Arts Studio is also committed to supporting emerging artists and future leaders in the arts community. Buffalo Arts Studio receives dozens of submissions each season from across the WNY region. During the 2017/18 season, the curator has visited studios in Erie, Niagara, Genesee, and Monroe counties to select artists for this series. She will do the same for future seasons. To increase general submission numbers as well as better analyze submission data, Buffalo Arts Studio is updating its website and simplifying its submission process.
Guided gallery and studio tours are available for the general public, with a suggested donation of $3 per person ($40 minimum per group).
Exhibitions are scheduled 1 to 2 years in advance. We are currently reviewing submissions for the 2018/2019 exhibition period.
