This class will focus on developing foundational drawing skills through careful observation. Students will strengthen their drawing abilities by learning how to draw what they truly see rather than relying on memory. Through a variety of still life arrangements and observational studies, students will develop their artistic eye while exploring proportion, shading and composition. By the end of the session, students will have multiple observational study pieces and 2 final portfolio pieces. Supplies included.

Mixed Media with Maddie Bartley Gambacorta

This workshop is for all levels and presents drawings as a creative process to practice focus, mark making, and hash out ideas. Students will be creating a series of drawings with the use of paint, stencils, color pencils, thread, watercolors and inks. The intent of this workshop is to explore and loosen up your art making through testing out a variety of materials on multiple sheets of paper. The instructor will share her techniques of building layers and experimenting with drawing tools to gradually develop with each work. A series of small 5 by 7 inch drawings on paper become a way to exercise your artistic expression. At the end of the workshop, participants will have created a series of mixed media works on paper. Intuitive Painting in Ink with Sarah Jane Barry

FULL: Ceramic Surfaces with Christina Riccio

This 6-week course will focus on honing skills in ceramic surfaces. Students will learn techniques for how to utilize different surfaces and create two-dimensional imagery on three-dimensional surfaces. We will be taking a deep dive into approaches such as: creative idea development, sgraffito, underglaze painting/layering, Mishima, stencils, slip trailing, paper transfers, additive / subtractive texture, wax resist, in-depth cone 6 glazing processes, and more! Students will have the freedom to make work in the clay process of their choice (handbuilding, wheel, etc.), and apply the learned surface methods to their pieces. Previous experience with clay required. Clay and glazes included. Students must bring their own apron and small sketchbook.
