Post Event Celebration, Friday, May 27, 2022, 5pm – 8pm.
Buffalo Arts Studio presents a closing celebration of the current exhibition new gods, old America as well as a celebration of the artists and volunteers who were a part of our fundraising event Triminia. It’s our sincere hope that this art and music-filled evening can provide a little light and bring our neighborhood and the broader Buffalo community together during this incredibly difficult time. Julia Bottoms will be working on her polytab mural centered on hope and peace, which she plans to donate to the East Side neighborhood to aid in community healing. Also on display will be Bianca McGraw’s interactive sculpture Reclaim and Redistribute, which uses more than 16,000 LEGO blocks collected from the community. In addition we will be collecting fresh produce and cash donations that will be donated to F.A.T.H.E.R.S. to support them in their response to basic neighborhood needs. We will also be collecting donations for Black Love Resists in the Rust (BLRR) to advance their long-term community plan for mental health support.
Brooklyn-based artist Tommy Nguyen will also be on-site for the closing reception of new gods, old America and a post-event celebration for Triminia. Nguyen worked with Buffalo Arts Studio’s Jump Start program as well as students from Buffalo Academy for Visual and Performing Arts (BPS 192) to construct their own inflatable characters. Student work will be included in the display. Wander through the magic of new gods, old America and into our microcinema, where the Fret Zealot team will be demonstrating their interactive guitar lessons that lets people learn quickly and intuitively with exciting LED lights.
Guests can also join us in the community space and experience all of the artwork made and installed by and for Triminia. The exhibition includes a 16-foot mural painted by The Solo Roths, cardboard installation by Brooklyn-based street artist Taiitan Lopez, and a video by Ruby Soudant. Also on display are acrylic paintings by MJ Meyers who painted live from various points within the event, as well as a stunning canvas by Muhammad Zaman.
