As a child, Travis Keller moved from Las Vegas to a small town in Arkansas. The challenges of being the new kid from “Sin City” at a school residing in the “Bible Belt” gave him a unique outlook on the stigmas attached to one’s home. Once he completed his BFA at the University of Arkansas, he visited his new home of Buffalo, NY while attending the art program at the Chautauqua Institution. Keller’s oil paintings depict a chaotic world. Excessively stacked living environments visualize the fragility of social and class structures. While the presence of light is the only indication of the landscape’s vast population, the unseen residents only clear path out of their situation is through a seemingly impossible climb.
