David has been a resident Buffalo Arts Studio since 2006, working in oil paint and graphite. He takes or finds photographs and reinterprets them, often inventing the color and reshaping the work for effect. Concentrating on gesture and emotion rather than detail, his works explore the way our memory filters events and places and people. He has exhibited consistently since 2006, including Echo Art Fair, Studio Hart, the Kenan Center, and the Distillery in Pittsburgh. David has been widely collected in Western New York, and recently had a piece added to the permanent collection of the Burchfield Penney Art Center.
Artist’s statement: “I try to retain the inherent emotion of family photographs by painting sparely and freely”
