Allan Hebeler

We are our stories. The personal stories that identify who we are.  Our collective stories that guide, warn, tell where we have been and where we are going.  My work is about collective stories based on myth and science.  Linking these symbolic stories with today’s concerns is the basis for my work. I began working on the theme of the expulsion from the garden in 2001.  I see a connection between the biblical expulsion and today’s cultural disconnect from nature.  Artificial vs. real food.  Artificial light vs. sunlight.  This disconnect ultimately affects our physical, spiritual and mental health. The creative process I use merges traditional painting techniques of paint and pastel with the computer.  It’s my way of bringing together two disciplines, nature and science, to compose something that I couldn’t create separately.
