JUMP
START SCHOLARSHIP
Since July 1999, the Project CREATE Education Program has taken
place in Buffalo Arts Studios community classrooms.
Here, students receive the type of intensive training necessary
to prepare them for a career in the arts. Select students can receive
this training on a tuition-free basis with a "Jump Start" scholarship, helping them gain access to professional, individual art training.
Each year, the education program offers courses in pottery, photography,
painting, drawing and more. Once enrolled in the
Jump Start program, students work through a series of courses introducing a
range of artistic media. Upon completion of these introductory courses students may choose a specific media for concentrated study and
receive assistance with their portfolio development for college.
This course of study follows the guidelines set forth in New York
States Learning Standards for the Arts ensuring that those
involved receive the highest quality of instruction.
Serious upper-level instruction is the hallmark of the Project CREATE
Education Program. Our teaching artists are trained professionals,
most of whom are resident artists at Buffalo Arts Studio. By enabling
talented individuals to learn from professional artists working
in a safe, creative studio environment, BAS hopes to unlock and
shape their creative potential.
Students are expected
to remain in the program throughout their school careers and attend
one class each session. Only one absence is allowed each session,
and a students continuation in the program is evaluated at the end
of each year. Students are expected to maintain a portfolio throughout their involvement
with the program.
